This notice explains what happens when you talk with Glo, Agora's AI study partner. By agreeing to it, you consent to Agora processing your voice with AI and saving a written transcript of your sessions, as described below. It is part of our Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
Glo is an AI, not a person
Nobody from Agora or your class listens to your sessions live.
When your microphone is on
Agora asks your browser for microphone access when you start a session. You can say no, but voice sessions won't work without it.
While a session is open, your browser keeps the microphone on and shows its own microphone indicator. Agora sends your audio when it's your turn to speak. Ending or leaving the session turns the microphone off.
What happens to your voice
- AI processes it live. Your audio is streamed securely to the service provider that runs the AI models behind Glo, which turn your speech into text, work out what you meant, and create Glo's spoken replies.
- We don't keep recordings of your voice. Our AI provider may keep limited session records for a short time, for example to reconnect a dropped session or to detect misuse of its services.
- We keep a written transcript of what you and Glo said, along with anything you write during the session, such as an equation. We automatically clean up transcripts, for example to fix transcription errors and to mask profanity, but they can still contain mistakes.
- No voiceprints. We don't use your voice to identify you or create a voiceprint or other biometric identifier from it. If we ever want to, we'll ask for your consent first.
If we decide to start keeping recordings of your voice, we'll update this notice and tell you before that applies to your sessions.
How AI uses what you say
- During a session, Glo asks about the concepts your instructor chose, listens to your answers, and keeps track of which concepts you've covered. It may look up passages in the course materials your instructor shared with students, and it uses your earlier progress in the course to decide what to ask.
- After a session, AI reviews your transcript to write your feedback report, which can include a score, how you did on each concept (with short quotes or paraphrases of your answers), a strength, something to work on, and a next step. AI also updates your progress on each concept over time.
- For your class, AI combines results from everyone's sessions into summaries for your instructor. Section 5 of our Privacy Policy explains what your instructor can see.
Where you do your sessions
Please do your sessions somewhere you're comfortable being heard, and don't record other people without their permission. Your microphone can pick up anyone nearby, and some states, including Massachusetts and California, make it illegal to record a private conversation without everyone's knowledge or consent.
Keep sensitive information out
Please don't mention things like health details, government ID numbers, passwords, or private information about other people during a session. Anything you say becomes part of your transcript.
Emergencies
Glo can't help in an emergency. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services. In the U.S., you can call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Your choices
- You can end a session at any time. Ending a session may count toward your course's attempt limits.
- You can withdraw your consent to voice processing at any time by writing to info@learnwithagora.com. After that, you won't be able to use voice sessions. If Agora is part of your course, ask your instructor about other ways to take part.
